Laser Soft Tissue Surgery

Sometimes an injury during the infant years causes the primary (or baby) front teeth incisors to exfoliate sooner than expected, this may result in the adult front teeth or central incisors havingdifficulty erupting through thedense and thick gum tissue. This could lead to a significant delay in the eruption of one or both of the front incisors. This presentation can be unsightly for some children and can cause further tooth development disturbances such as teeth wanting to erupt at an angle or coming in misaligned.

Although not very common, children can present with soft or hard tissue lesions that require treatment for the best prognosis. In most cases, these lesions are benign and parents have nothing to worry about. It is recommended that once these lesions are removed (excised). The biopsy is sent to a reputable oral pathology lab for microscopic diagnosis. Some of the most common lesions are shown below.

Assisted Eruption of Teeth

When the primary (or baby) front teeth incisors exfoliate sooner then expected because of an injury during the infant years, the adult front teeth or central incisors may have a difficulty erupting through a dense and thick gum tissue. This will result in a significant delay in the eruption one or both of the front incisors. This presentation can be unsightly for some children and their parents and can cause tooth development disturbances such as teeth.

Using our state of the art soft tissue laser, our doctors can easily allow the trapped tooth to erupt into the proper position. Encouraging the proper positioning of adult teeth early on through guided eruption helps achieve improved aesthetics.
